Storm Windows are made to be durable and resistant against all the weather elements. They are designed to protect against bad weather and storms this is why homes in snowy and stormy cities will more then likely have these. The materials of storm windows will differ but if you are designing and buildings your own storm windows there will be certain materials that should not be used. As storm windows are there to protect you the worst material to use would be glass. Glass is what the primary window will be built of but are not suitable for the requirements of storm windows as glass is not durable. It can crack and shatter and if you are in a storm can be very dangerous. If you were to build your own storm windows it would be a lot cheaper, but try not to cut too many costs as it can sometime not be cost effective. If your try and buy cheaper materials you may end up buying the material twice. If you buy a quality product in the beginning you may save time and money by not having to replace the storm window. If you are looking to invest in storm windows you should choose a material which will protect your home and also look attractive. Some people have tried to use wood but this is not a sensible option as it is draughty and can stop you seeing out of the windows. Sometimes you will see this in hurricanes or tornadoes. If you live in an old house the new storm windows should be in keeping, if you live in a new build house using plastic surrounds for your windows may look more suitable. Even though storm windows are practical you still want them to look attractive so it would be best to try and keep the windows more subtle.
